To Give Life Anew

Through my work I explore the cyclical nature of life and decay, as they feed into each other to create a sense of homeostasis in the natural world.

All life exists in this constant state of flux.

I believe that creation (the physical world, including our bodies) and consciousness (the immaterial force of life) are a single energy. And this energy is the soul. Einstein’s first law of thermodynamics states that energy cannot be created or destroyed, it can only be changed from one form to another. This is in line with the concept that the soul is immortal. Through this image I wish to celebrate this infinite cycle of life, and alleviate the fear of death. For, in time, this energy that was once you will transmute to form new life.

To me, this continuation of the life-force is the transmigration of the soul.

Dancer in the Woods

The story of our universe begins with a singularity. Due to some inconceivable force, space expanded and matter formed. The stars, the earth, oceans, animals and even our bodies, are all made from this matter that has existed since the beginning of time. The Merriam-Webster Dictionary has a term for this collective: Nature.

We are, quite literally, STARDUST.

Biological life evolved from chemical elements.

Homo-sapiens are just another step in the story of evolution.

The question is, "Where will we go from here?"

Life

The first in a series entitled “Life”, through which I wish to capture a moment in the life of the sitter: the specific time and place (both physically and mentally) of their current state. I am continuously inspired by the cinematic tableau, representations of moments captured like stills from a film. A Hiatus if you like: "a pause or gap in a sequence, series, or process". But life doesn’t work that way. There is never just one moment; every moment is fleeting, interconnected with the one just passed and the one to come. And when all those moments accumulate into an emotional state so overwhelming that it can no longer be contained, then comes the rupture. That is the essence of what I have strived to captured in this image, the very moment of rupture.
